on. we'll start with the satellite and radar. we had big storms rumble through portions of the viewing area. yesterday it got quite dark and scary looking. all the storl activity has -- storm activity has pushed well off to the south and west of here. we do have the clouds still. a couple of showers popping up in central virginia now but most of the activity is in southwestern virginia, eastern portions of tennessee, western portions of north carolina, and southern west virginia. so that's where that is. we talked about the heat advisory. yes, there's a heat advisory that goes into effect at noon today. lasts until 8:00 p.m. all the counties you see there including washington, d.c. this is because with the heat in the upper 90s, the air temperature and humidity, it's going to feel like it's between 100 and 105 degrees during the day today. currently 78 degrees at reagan national. relative humidity 81%. so very uncomfortable out. winds out of the southwest now at 7 miles an hour. planner for today hazy, hot and humid. can't rule out a stray thunderstorm or two during the

the heat, high pressure from the midwest and the ohio valley is building toward us. big storms in the great lakes and new york to the north might, might get toward areas near the mason dixon line later. this 99 that ties the record at reagan national set back in 1993. richmond is already 100. these are noontime temperatures. we've got another four, five, six hours the bake in the sun. that's why we're going up to the 100s. in fact i raised my 100 from yesterday to 102. we get to 104, 105 today wouldn't be out of the question and right now the heat index is already 105. 107 fredericksburg, tappahannock and easton. in hagerstown, only feels like 98 but everybody is dealing with this. the good news is the front is coming through tonight and knock temperatures down oh five, 10 degrees for the weekend but today at 3:00, around 102. maybe 103 or 104. 6:00 p.m. we're still going to be around 100 degrees and a very hot afternoon and by 9:00, low 90s. i'll come back and we'll talk about the rest of the weekend and the tropics -- boy, there's a lot going on there too, see you soon. >>> metro still sa

if there is a chance to put this big deal back together that he and speaker boehner were very close to having this deal last week, that in many ways this speech was almost a post-mortem, almost setting up the blame game for the fact that no big deal is going to happen and no matter what happens here at the end of the day the debt ceiling is probably going to go up, nobody is going to be happy about the deal. i can tell you this, ann, i had a bunch of democrats who said to me would have been a good speech to give two weeks ago. >> i know that he calls republican activism, so much so that we hear capitol hill websites were crashing last night because so many people were trying to e-mail representatives. it sounds like he spooked main street. will he also speak wall street? >> no, wall street is calm. the markets are looking good today. we had a blip down in the indicators from 9:05 and 9:20, then i came right back. nobody is buying the panic or skyrocketing interest rates scenario. >> that said, hedge funds are prepare for a default. >> there's a possibility that we could default. it will be short term.

, but it has a big footprint. it's touching those counties in some places. we have more storms back out to the west. this will go until 5:30. frederick, virginia. warren county and those under the severe thunderstorm warning until 5:30. this was a storm i was just showing you on max hd radar. as we zoom in a little bit. this is to the northwest of the beltway in great falls right along the river there. you can see getting a healthy dose and this is drifting toward mcarthur boulevard. we can see the street level view. we take you back out 66 because between winchester and front royal, is this a severe thunderstorm, too. the drift on this storm has been basically to the west and it's not moving very quickly and as we use the radar to look at these, that storm is getting a pretty healthy updraft. the other storm is a very strong updraft as well. all these storms about equally as strong. the possibility of hail and very high, gusty winds approaching 50 to 60 miles per hour. but most importantly, it looks like they are trying to bring some cooling relief. we'll send it back out to shawn and

. by the way, they're gone. the issue is campaign finance regularities and big sums are involved. kwame brown spent much of the day chairing a committee on of the whole meeting of the d.c. council. his attorney spent the morning at the city's board of elections and ethics. the issue for brown is not the expensive leases for luxury suvs, but campaign activities for his race for city council in 2008. william sanford, the general council alleged that brown's campaign committee failed to list all of its donors and expenditures. the amounts are big sums. this is one example. by failing to -- 53 exend tours, totaling 169,439.49 in the total sum of expenditures that were made by the committee. >> reporter: some of kwame brown's campaign money was allegedly support to a firm owned by his brother. the attorney asked the board to take no action but to refer the whole matter to federal prosecutors. >> and while we do not agree, concede the allegations as being true, it's our position that as a matter of efficiency and expedition, this process is best served that this matter is referred to the office of

, but it means, mr. president, that we can't be raising taxes on the job creators, and there is a big debate right now about how do we get ourselves out of this fiscal mess. i would submit to my colleagues that the real issue here is spending. if you go back to the foundation of our country, the year 1800, we were only spending 2% of our entire economic output on the government, the federal government. this year we're going to spend 24% to 25%. the historical average over the past 40 years is about 20.6%. we are dramatically higher in terms of what we are spending on our federal government as a percentage of our entire economy. to me, clearly, we don't have a revenue issue here in washington. we have a spending issue. which would suggest that we ought to get after spending, after federal spending, particularly spending that is -- is duplicative, redundant, there are so many things in the federal government that we spend money on that we need to get that waste and that -- and all those types of wasteful spending out of our spending here in washington, d.c., but we also have to focus on those
